CBA honors its best teachers

Three CMU business faculty members received teaching awards for excellence in the classroom.

Richard Featheringham, professor of Business Information Systems, received the Dean’s Teaching Award.

“Dick is one of the college’s most experienced and competent teachers. He should be commended for his innovation in the last few years to create a more effective learning environment for students in his classes,” said interim dean Dan Vetter.

The annual dean’s award is based on nominations from students and colleagues. It honors the recipient’s academic discipline, knowledge, respect, sensitivity to students, enthusiasm, classroom preparation and organization, accessibility to students, being a positive role model for students, and skill in assisting student learning. Recipients receive a plaque and $1,000 for their professional development account.

SBC Teaching Award recipients were marketing professor Holt Wilson and accounting professor Robert Bromley. Wilson and Bromley were honored for demonstrating teaching excellence by developing and using innovative teaching techniques, attending teaching improvement seminars, supervising independent studies, managing student seminars outside the classroom, and being involved in student organizations.

“Both Rob and Holt demonstrate high levels of both teaching excellence and innovation, making them highly effective in the classroom,” Vetter said.
